The Chromatic Harmonica is a relatively new instrument, developed in the 1920's. The instrument can be thought of as a combination of thw diatonic harmonicas tuned half a step apart. These models incorporate the full chromatic scale and allow a player using one harmonica to play in any key. Chromatic harmonicas provide a complete 12-note octave, which includes all the sharps and flats. Each holecontains four reeds: two for the natural notes, and two for :chromatic" notes. The reeds for the "chromatic" notes are brought into operation by pushing a slide button on the side of the harmonica. This closes off the airflow to one set of reeds while allowing the other set to vibrate freely.
The instrument is the preferred harmonica for classical, jazz, and "Bossa Nova" styles. Chromatic harmonicas can also be used for Blues, Folk, and Popular music.
We offer chromatic harmonicas from Suzuki, Hohner, Seydel, Hering, Huang, and Buckeye Music.
